Bhairab Bridge. Bangladesh
The Bhairab Bridge is an outstanding example of engineering excellence. Located in Bangladesh across the mighty river Meghna, near the Indo Bangladesh Border, this is a dual gauge (Broad and meter gauges) Railway Bridge designed to carry 25 T axle load.

The Bridge has 9 (nine) spans of 102.4 meters length each along with 03 nos 20.6 meters span at the approach, the total length of the bridge being around 1.0 Km. 7400 MT of steel was utilised for its manufacture. The fabrication of each girder was technically challenging, involving precision manufacture of around 425 components and drilling of 90,000 holes in each girder.

The scope of the work involved fabrication of all the girder components at our Texmaco Workshop at Panihati, exporting by road/ river to Bangladesh site and erecting all the components of girders one by one.

The erection of the girders, at around 25 metres height from the river water level, was done by cantilever methodfrom the river bed. The bridge has been completed without any casualty because of stringent safety norms followed during the erection.

The main fabrication, after preparation of the detailed drawing and lay out, started in May, 2015 and the entire work including erection was completed in Feb., 2017 i.e. less than 2 years time. Around 350 Indian skilled personnel, who were proficient in erection and riveting, were mobilized in Bangladesh for the work.
